    Deadlines for candidates who started the program in November

    Candidates  must send PDF files containing:

    ** October 13, 2023

    Candidates and advisors have to fix a date before October 13, 2023  to meet with their evaluation committee

    During the meeting each candidate is required to present the

    -  Annual Report  (all cycles)
    -  Thesis Proposal (cycle 38, I year)
    -  Progress Report (cycle 37, II year)
    -  Draft of the Phd Thesis (cycle 36, III year) 

    The supervisor must send a short report to the PhD Coordinator by October 13, 2023
    The report must contain a clear statement about the admission of the candidate to her/his next step. For third year candidates, the report should include indications of the  final exam session (see Schedule and deadlines for final exams below).

    For candidates who have urgencies related to the residence permit, the presentation can be anticipated in the second half of September 2023 and the supervisors must send the report by the end of September 2023. 

    Schedule and deadlines of PhD defenses/final exams

    Admission to External Review for all sessions: October 2023

    The supervisor(s)  and the evaluation committee propose 3 names for possible external reviewers
    The Phd Board selects 2 reviewers at least ten days  before the thesis submission

    Admission to the final exam: December 15-18, 2023
    Final Exam:   February 5-9, 2024

    Deadlines 2020

    1) Candidates (with the help of their advisors) have to fix a date before October 12  to meet with their evaluation committees (sottocommissioni see https://dottorati.aulaweb.unige.it/mod/page/view.php?id=1561) in order to discuss 
    - the thesis proposal (I year)
    - the progress report (II year)
    - current status of the thesis (III year).

    2) The documentation (proposal/progress report/thesis draft) must be available to each member of the evaluation committees  at least 7 days before the  meeting.
    3) The evaluation committee must send a report to the PhD Coordinator by October 12, 2020. For the admission to the final exam, the report must contain a clear statement about the admission of the candidate to external reviews phase.

    4) Candidates are also required to upload the documentation in their Dropbox folder together with the updates of the annual report and exam certificates  by October 12, 2020.


    The PhD Board will then meet on October 16, 2020 to formally deliberate the admission to the next year/final exam
    and to select the external reviewers students of Cycle XXXIII for session 1 (with exam in January) and 
    session 2 (exam in March):

    CYCLE XXXI - External Review and PhD Defense
    October 8, 2018
    Submission of the update of annual report (exams, etc)

    Presentations in front of the PhD Board (Welcome/PhD Days)
    PhD Candidates communicate to the Coordinator the preferred PhD defense session (winter/spring)
    PhD Candidate can also apply for one additional year without grant (see instructions)
    October 17, 2018
    PhD Board Meeting: 
    Based on the reports and presentations, the Board decides admission/non admission
    to the submission of the thesis to the external reviewers.
     
    For each admitted candidate, the Board selects two external reviewers and the PhD Defense session. The Board also decides admission/non admission to the additional year.
    * WINTER DEFENSE SESSION (March 2019)
    November 30, 2018: 
    Submission of the thesis to the external reviewers.
    Reviewers have two months for completing the review.
     
    February 14, 2019:
    PhD Board Meeting: 
    Based on the reviews, the Board decides admission to the final exam
     
    March 14-16, 2019:
    PhD Defense
